EYES ON THE WATER

Hubbard County Coalition of Lake Associations (HC COLA) is encouraging all lakeshore owners to be our lake's "Eyes on the Water". Thank you for volunteering to be a "first responder" in locating an aquatic invasive species (AIS) on your lake. This early detection has proven to be an effective way of stemming the subsequent spread of AIS to other lakes.

Early detection can also allow for more effective treatment options in your lake. Even if you do not have a special monitoring device (such as a settlement sampler) you can still help by inspecting your shoreline, your lake shore equipment and search around your lake for AIS.

We encourage lake association presidents and AIS coordinators to forward this note with all lake shore residents and invite their participation on this work. Obviously, the more "eyes on the water", the more likely a new infestation can be detected early. (If you are new to this process, send me an email so I include you on future mailings - jlmosner@gmail.com

Click here for a list of tips and tactics to guide you to look for AIS on your lake. (Special thanks to Dan Kittilson for developing this Eyes on the Water program.) Also, check out the special Eyes on the Water section on HC COLA's website for addition information.

This fall I will again send you an on-line survey to help us evaluate our Eyes on the Water efforts. All of us at HC COLA thank you for your efforts to keep our lakes AIS-free.

Have a great summer!
